The "Re-use boxes" were used to collect post-consumer textile waste at the end of its life cycle, giving these materials a second life.
With these items, which will be shredded, we will produce blankets to help underprivileged communities while giving new meaning to the circular economy of the product.

The "Re-use box" project is a social solidarity project developed by J.Gomes in partnership with the companies Dual Borgstena, Twintex and the Lã e a Neve School Group.
The Re-use boxes are boxes that we made available at each partner's premises for them to put post-consumer textile waste in, in order to give it a second life.

During the month of September, we collected the boxes with the garments they contained and weighed each one.

The total in kg of garments collected by each organisation is as follows:

  • J.Gomes - 110kg
  • Borgstena - 115kg
  • Twintex - 94kg
  • Agrupamento de Escolas A Lã e a Neve: Kindergarten - 219kg
  • São Domingos School - 48kg

These pieces will be shredded to produce 100% recycled fibre. With this fibre we intend to develop an item (blankets) that will help a disadvantaged community. The items produced during this project will be divided between the four organisations so that each one can deliver them to the institution of their choice.

The whole process goes through the following stages:

  • Collection of the re-use boxes - carried out by J.Gomes;
  • Separation of post-consumer waste - carried out by J.Gomes;
  • Recycling of post-consumer waste - carried out by J.Gomes;
  • Spinning of 100% recycled multicoloured fibre - carried out by J.Gomes;
  • Weaving of 100% recycled yarn - carried out by Dual Borgstena;
  • Finishing - done by J.Gomes;
  • Finishing - carried out by Twintex.
